In the last edition of this series I wrote about how I don’t honestly think how you design your so called “sigil” is super important. I think you could do this a million different ways and as long as you’re attaching a meaning to an image or symbol and projecting it, it’ll have roughly the same effect. I’m of the mind to make them as arty as possible, but again, that’s just my personality. I think you could sigilize anything, and what I didn’t mention there is that I also sigilize music often. It’s funny because I’m sitting here like, I’m not even sure what the right word for that is. It’s like I want to say visualizing music but that’s seeing music in your head. This is hearing it. Willfully projecting auditory hallucinations into your mind’s ears? It’s as good as I’ve got and we just don’t have great verbiage for this sort of thing at this point in history. Whatever you want to call it, it’s the basis for most of my banishing rituals, which I’ll get to eventually here.
What’s critical is that in the few magick books I’ve actually read, the emphasis was always on technique and not purpose. In my experience, this is a fairly huge oversight as I don’t think technique necessarily means a whole lot and intent is pretty much everything. Again, this has just been my experience. It is a bit odd though. As I’ve mentioned a million times before, I got into magick roughly a decade after I started experimenting with astral projection. So I’d had a bunch of ontology shattering encounters with freaks from beyond the pale that shaped the way I framed the intent of my sigils from the jump. Weird, because I’d sort of forgotten this but in reading other people’s magick posts online over the last few years I’ve been like, wow, that’s what you’re doing with magick? Huh?
A lot of it seems like small shit if I’m to be quite honest. There should really only be one true goal of a magick practice: to elevate the consciousness of the species. The hermetic pursuit of godhood. The question is, how can you help the macroverse achieve this goal? How can you tap into the collective psi grid? The answer’s going to be different for everyone and that’d be my first tip and how I think magick could be infinitely influential as far as becoming a more common religious practice. I think a lot of people find themselves directionless in life, lost in a murky sea of supposed family obligations and corporate mind rape psychology. Our religious and educational institutions sure aren’t helping move the narrative along spiritually. We’re ritualistically obsessing over the same “sacred texts” we have been for the last several thousand years, that’s an inarguable fact. So if, you’re feeling lost, directionless, what you want to do is look at the map. You want to hit the pause button in the video game that is your life and see what the fuck you’re working toward. This should be the sole intent to your sigil practice until you get to the point where you think you’ve found this optimal plotline. Pick a sigil and visualize that thing constantly until you feel like you have an answer. Pick a few at the same time that have the same identical purpose and alternate if you’re getting bored. I think this might be the easiest most practical use for magick. If I were to recommend an image to focus on, I’d say maybe pick an image of friendly grey alien face, with the big eyes. The reason I’d recommend that would be because this was shown to me in a vision quite explicitly.
In my case I always knew what I wanted to do, I was just simultaneously unconsciously trying to kill myself with booze and pills. That was sort of standing in my way more than a bit and magick pointed this out to me quite explicitly. But again, I knew what I wanted to do. If you don’t, use magick to tune into that. I mention this because I’ve know a shit ton of people in life that seemingly have this issue. And that’s the subjective nature of consciousness in general. I would not be able to tell you what the fuck it is you’re supposed to be doing with your practice to help move us toward godhood. I have zero clue what your high magick is. You need to figure that out by turning inwardly and finding the plot. It could be splicing genomes or being a really good mom. Don’t have a clue and it would vary for everyone.
If you think you have this figured out (or think you do at least), here’s where I’m really going to go off the rails for most Occult purists as far as intent goes.
Don’t Be Specific and Default to Higher Wisdom
I have to insist on this and again, this is coming from experience. Not all good experience mind you, really more from my fuck ups than anything else. The spells I’ve fucked up the most have been the one’s where I wanted something rather specific. The problem with this is that we exist on a multitude of levels (see my quick guide to multi-dimensional time space perception here). The you that’s making these sigil requests is doing so blindly for all intents and purposes. You think you know what you want, but you can’t see alternate future potentialities. You can’t see how everything’s connected. You can’t see karmic consequence. You can only see the here and now right in front of you face. When you’ve found our roughly how your high magick is supposed to operate, you should then start framing the intent to your spells very calculatedly. Help me do this thing for the universe. What I do with my magick will benefit the interconnected plot structure that is our reality. Ultimately you’re trying to strike a balance between the dark and the light. What’s good for you is good for the future of human evolution. This is roughly how you should frame everything you do.
Again, you’re supposed to be working toward your spiritual development first and then the spiritual development of the species as a direct result of that development. If you use magick for anything else, what I would expect is that all it’s going to do is point your own deficiencies in intent out to you until you figure it out. You’re supposed to be working towards ascension. Anything else is bullshit. The point is to make contact with your spiritual mother and father, your angelick and daemonic guardian aliens. Let them take control of the scene. They are your sight beyond sight, the eyes in the back of your mind. Ask them to help them on your quest and don’t be specific as to what you think you want exactly. You want to ease your pain and then the collective pain of humanity through your works.
I can when I started out with this stuff, I made several more specific requests. Now, it’s not that they didn’t work. The absolutely did. The problem is this idea of optimal trajectory, or what a lot of people call the path of least resistance. I was shown that these things I was asking were going to be difficult and was like, fuck that, it’s what I want. Bad idea. Now again, not entirely, in fact I think in a way it involves sort of doing the right thing in a big picture way. I’ve just taken on some far more tedious projects than I ever really should have. Strangely enough, the one thing that fucked me over more than anything was a spell I cast to help someone. I had no idea what this would entail but I was warned. Which brings me to my next topic.
Consult Your Guardian Entities
It’s funny in reading Abramelin last year he talked about this quite a bit as well. If you have an idea for a more specified plot you’d like to see in motion, put yourself in some deep meditative or dream states and try to figure out whether or not this is a good idea. Just try and listen to your intuition. As mentioned, a few of the mistakes I’ve made so far have involved me not really taking this guidance. What I was being told was, well, we can do that, buuuut, it’s going to be a pain in the ass. Then I was repeatedly reminded of this fact as I proceeded to get frustrated with the situation as it developed. What I’m not mentioning is that I had a couple other ideas about things I wanted to attempt where I was warned specifically: DON’T. This stuff is going to backfire on you. Seriously, that is not the path you want to tread down. I was once told precisely how in fairly explicit detail and I had to agree, yeah, not worth it. All my way of saying, just don’t go off all half cocked warping reality. Your 3rd dimensional self truly isn’t in tune with the larger picture enough to talk specifics. You’re not the writer, you’re the actor. You don’t understand how this shit all ties together in the script. What you’re doing with magick is learning how to hit your mark and channel your lines. Magick isn’t really about bending reality to your will, it’s about surfing the spacewaves. More on that next time tripsters.
